“MILIM” – and in English, WORDS – is the name of this website and its address is www.milim.org  or https://mymilim.info/ [= My Words].

The main concern of this site are words, but it also deals with sounds and images – and tries to find the contexts that combine between these three, a good reason for me to have added the subtitle “interdisciplinary pages”.

Different people have asked me on various occasions: What is the site “WORDS” and who is its audience?

Not knowing what to answer, and in order to extract myself out of these embarrassing straits, I attempted the wretched trick that is so commonly used to save those who remain “wordless”, and decided to come up with a ‘brilliant quote’. I chose Friedrich Nietzsche’s declaration at the opening of his book, “Thus Spoke Zarathustra” – that this is “a book for everyone and no one”.

– Perhaps this is what you should expect from this website?…

When the site was first launched in the year 2000, I professed that “the intent of the words is:

 

“To relate to words, to put a mirror to images and to listen to voices.

The site claims to examine the influence, uses and abuses of these three separately, as well as in combination, both in the sublime and in the wretched, whether for good or for ev-will”

 

The name of the site is not only derived from the spirit of the quoted motto taken from the Book of Job, which I placed at the top, but mainly by the belief that delving into the various meanings of the words that express an idea, studying and analyzing them, is imperative for uncovering the intent of the person who uses these words, similarly to the task of peeling an onion until the heart is revealed.

The site has been around for quite a few years, and has undergone many changes, both in its technological structure and its contents, and today it deals with a wealth of issues in the following six main categories:

 

Texts

In which the reader will find references to famous writers and poets of different cultures who wrote in several languages;

Sights

Is a comprehensive title to what we perceive through our eyes – both in the paintings of traveling painters and in photographs and in various graphic works;

Sounds

Is a category devoted to the sounds played by the performers of musical works mainly from the classical repertoire, such as the Lieder operas and other works that are absorbed into our consciousness through our sense of hearing;

Trails

In this category I share with readers, as partners, the journeys I have followed in the footsteps of various writers and artists around the world;

Videos

Is a category in which you will find short videos, my edited collage creations in which I try to combine the various arts;

Past / Present

Is a category dominated by eclecticism, which attempts to trace phenomena and events from the past [distant and near] and confront them with the present.


Duty of Proper Disclosure

In order to fulfill this duty – which applies to everyone, and naturally to myself – I find it necessary to make it clear right away: the “WORDS” site does not pretend to be more than:

The site is written in Hebrew, but it can also be of interest to non- Hebrew-readers who may use the services of Google Translate to get an idea of ​the content of my uploads. The photographs, drawings, and other graphic means, as well as the various sounds, do not need to be translated and can be understood by everyone.
